Alex Barclay, the newly minted Duke of Kress has been banished to his country home by the Prince Regent himself. The Prince is angry over the part Alex played in a bachelor party which brought much criticism to the Prince and his entourage. On his way to his castle, Alex finds a woman barely clinging to the edge of a cliff. Alex immediately rescues this poor woman. She turns out to be Roxanne Vanderhaven, the Countess of Paxton and she says her husband, the Earl of Paxton left her there for death. The plot of this book is original and fun. The dialogue is absolutely perfect. It is witty, and so believable. One feels they are right there listening. Finally, I have found an author that understands that a romp should respect the time, place and social mores of the society about which the author writes. So often an author thinks that funny is destroying and disrespecting everything about the setting of the book and the interrelated characters. Yes, of course, it is fun to have a few bizarre incidents. Life is like that. But too often, every move of the characters is calculated to be totally unconventional. IMO, that is not believable. All people have moments of craziness, but not living in an alternate universe. If the characters are having this experience, this is called science fiction, not Regency Romance.
This author respects her genre and her reader. Her characters, both primary and secondary, are delightfully portrayed, and interact in relatable ways. There is laughter, tears, mystery, romance, love, lust, friendship, loyalty, disappointment, and hope. Every word of this novel was a gift to be savored. I laughed. I cried. I loved this book. It is the first in a series, "Royal Entourage". I already have the next two books in my Kindle que. I recommend this book, for sure.

Between the Duke and the Deep Blue Sea Royal Entourage Sophia Nash 9780062022325 Books Reviews
I have at least 50 historical romance books on my (not the $0.00 type) and I would rate this as one of my top 5 favorites. I have rated it 5 stars in comparison with other books of the genre.
Don't be turned off by the tacky cover graphics - this book will not insult your grey cells! Buy.
When I began reading it, I didn't know what a treat this book would turn out to be. I was mildly annoyed by the whole Royal Duke thing (as though just Duke wasn't enough) and I was wondering if this is going to be based on some Duke - Poor Widow formula. I am so grateful I read through it! I have read it multiple times now. I think this is one Ms. Nash's best works and also a promising first book in the series.
The lead male character is a witty, cynical, half-french young Duke and the lead female is a witty, unassuming, non-noble-born Countess. See the common thing? They are both witty and don't let you down. The dialogues are funny in an absurd way but there is definite depth to the writing. Neither of them are young or virginal (phew). There is a good set of well-defined secondary characters. My favorites are Meme and Isabel.
The plot is interesting and doesn't fit into a stereotype storyline; that was very welcome. It is not even Ms. Nash's standard style. But there are all the fun elements - attraction, sexual tension, jealousy, friendship, humor and compatibility. The sex scenes are hot though not too many in number. I didn't mind that at all because the narration otherwise is completely worthwhile.
Do not buy if you want an erotica-romance crossover. Do not buy if you don't appreciate absurd humor.
I don't often bother reviewing the regencies that I read, but this one was special. It has a whizbang plot--that starts in the Prince Regent's bedroom and soon moves to a woman hanging from a cliff in Cornwall--and a motley cast of characters that I enjoyed. The author knows how to make absurdity plausible enough and how to set up her series in such a way to cause the reader to be ready for the next book. I recommend this if you like some wit with your romance.
If you enjoy romance novels with a large cast of characters and a warm family atmosphere, this is perfect. It even has interesting animals and a satisfyingly evil and narcissistic villain. He is evil but incompetent and goofy so you are not frightened that the lighthearted mood will deteriorate.
There is wit, mystery and romance. Although the romantic parts are equal with the rest of the story, it is still a very nice book. It is perhaps one of her best novels because you can feel the fondness for family throughout the book.
I have read all of the Entourage books and this is my favorite, along with the Duke Hunting book. Ms. Nash uses some of the same descriptions and phrases in the various books to describe different heroes and heroines, but that is understandable, how many ways can you describe a tall woman? Perhaps by making her short?
the only complaint that I have is that she is not consistent with the names of the characters...
I am not obtuse, I enjoyed the name jokes in this book very much, however, I was often confused because Dukes have more than one name and sometimes she referred to the Hero as Kress and other times by his other names. She does this in other books as well. I am sorry to be nitpicky, but the rhythm of the story is interrupted when you have to stop and figure out which Duke is whom because she switches from title names to first names or nicknames. There are five dukes and a duchess, thus adding to the confusion.
I would read Kress, Kress, Kress, Alexander? Who? Stop, figure out who Alexander was and then go back to the story. There were multiple characters in the book with multiple names.
But overall, this is a very fun story with just enough twists to keep you from falling into complacency.
Actually, the finale was more realistic than usual and and very dramatic. A nice treat!
