I don't read much so when a friend recommended this, I was reluctant to do so because I usually fall asleep after reading a couple of pages. "Dude, they're short stories, just read one a day," my friend said. I finished it in two days and really enjoyed the book. I noticed this is the author's first and only book so I will keep an eye out for what she has coming in the future.

Entertsining stories with an interesting look inside Vietnamese culture
I enjoyed these stories from Vietnam and from here. A good mix. I was surprised when I got to the end.
This was a quick read. Interesting to a point. And it was exactly like the description said, Vietnamese ghost stories.
Did not truly enjoy this collection of convoluted strange tales. Too much science fiction type. Too really weird tales for me.
They were mildly interesting Asian short stories. Folklore that leaves you saying "huh." Not scary, but not interesting either. Ehh..
I gave this rating because Ms.Kupersmith's writing catches the reader by surprise. Her craft of the English language pulls the string along a complex tale, drawing the reader into a sudden climax that can terrify with a few quick moves. I highly recommend this book for the reader who enjoys well-written, inventive stories with multi-layered characters who reveal their roots of Vietnamese phantasms.
The recasting of these folktales into a more contemporary setting is well done; characters are well-drawn, place realized--however, bunched up as they are in one collection, they challenge me to ask myself "So What"? What is the point. I suppose I read more for enlightenment than entertainment. For that reason, I don't care about Agatha Christie and the like--I come to the end and am deflated, asking myself, again, "So what"
